The berries in this concentrated powder come from bushes which grow in Peru's Amazon jungle. Not only are Camu camu berries the richest source of that most well-known antioxidant in the world, Vitamin C (with about 45 times as much as oranges!) and a great source of many other important nutrients such as beta carotene, calcium, iron, niacin, phosphorus, potassium riboflavin and thiamin, and the amino acids Leucine, Serine, and Valine, but they also have a number of medicinal properties, including as: astringents (they may be particularly effective against the herpes virus), anti-inflammatories (their seeds contain betulinic acid, which may be able to help prevent inflammation-based diseases such as arthritis), and emollients (they are increasingly being incorporated into hair care product). Some also believe it has antidepressant properties, and have used it as a natural alternative to SSRIs not only for depression but for other mood disorders.
