This product is designed for use on lesions / skin abnormalities (bandage over), psoriasis, eczema, cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites, infections, etc. with the Sulforaphane inducing Phase II Enzymes in the skin to promote healing. Other featured ingredients in this formula are Alberta Beeswax, Grapeseed Oil, Lavender Essential Oil and Tea Tree Oil. Alberta Beeswax and Grapeseed Oil (Vitis Vinifera) form the ideal base of this product. The combination is used to create an ointment which contains the sulforaphane and other active ingredients to allow for sustained release and continuous absorption into the skin unlike a cream base that is mostly water which provides fast and immediate delivery into the skin. The skin is also kept moist which helps to facilitate and speed up the healing process. Lavender Essential Oil is widely used for skin conditions. With it's pleasant spicy-sweet, floral scent, the therapeutic properties of Lavender were first discovered when a French Chemist doused his arm after badly burning it. To his surprise, his arm healed very quickly with no scarring. Lavender is a highly regarded skin conditioning agent and has antiseptic, analgesic and antimicro-bial properties. It has been used to help reduce stress / anxiety and to promote sleep. It is one of the most versatile essential oils and helps to mask the slight "sulfur" smell of the sulforaphane. Tea Tree Oil from Australia is a powerful natural solvent and is well known for its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial & anti-viral properties. It is deep penetrating and also very soothing, it is actually 4-10 times more soothing than Aloe Vera! It is an excellent anti-inflammatory and can help speed up the healing process.
Sulforaphane Skin Care Sulforaphane is a compound classified as an "isothiocyanate" and has been shown to have a number of health benefits including being one of the most potent naturally occurring inducers of Phase II Enzymes (enzymes such as quinone reductase, glutathione S-transferase and glutathione reductase that can protect cells from oxidants, electrophiles (chemicals that can dam-age DNA), inflammation and radiation). It is more potent at inducing Phase II Enzymes than Alpha Lipoic Acid at 1/10th the amount!(1) It functions differently, however, than traditional antioxidants such as Vitamins A, C, & E that neutralize one free radical at a time and are then used up. Sulforaphane boosts Phase II Enzyme activity which stimulates continuous long-lasting anti-oxidant reactions in the body even after the sulforaphane is no longer present (up to 72 hours later) and is therefore considered an indirect antioxidant.
Sulforaphane boosts detoxifying and protective reactions in the skin, promotes cellular integrity and has even been shown to repair DNA damage from things like ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species), chemicals, viruses and radiation. It has anti-inflammatory properties, supports the immune system and has anti aging benefits. It has also been shown as a chemoprotective agent and clinically studied as a preventative for numerous other types of cancer including: Prostate, Breast, Skin, Colon, Lung, Esophagus, Liver, Small Intestine and Bladder. There have been over 1,400 peer reviewed studies published on Sulforaphane since 1992 and recently it has garnered some attention for it's ability to repair and protect the skin against damage done by UV radiation.
Sulforaphane can come from a variety of cruciferous vegetables including kale, brussel sprouts and cabbage but is found in high levels in broccoli and broccoli sprouts. It is formed when Glucoraphanin(4) is in the presence of an enzyme called myrosi-nase. Myrosinase is naturally occurring in cruciferous vegetables but it is stored independently and does not come into contact with Glucoraphanin until the plant is injured, by chewing for example. Myrosinase removes the glucose part of the molecule creating the isothiocyanate, sulforaphane.
